Approach

Coded Group is a not for profit company (just like a lot of educational institutions), founded to help improve the design, implementation and management of technology in the UK education sector.

We aim to provide the highest quality assistance and IT support for educational settings. As a company limited by guarantee we have no shareholders, and our aim is not to make profit, but to help improve education by making the best use of technology.

We are committed to treating our employees properly, paying them well whilst developing and training them constantly. A skilled, enthusiast and innovative workforce has a hugely positive impact on how well we can deliver.

We care deeply about our environment, not just in words, but in practice. We strive to minimise our own carbon impact and work with our clients to deliver their IT services in the most environmentally sustainable way possible. Educating the next generation of global citizens should not come at the expense of poisoning their world.

We don’t believe in upselling or squeezing as much as possible out of our customers. Helping our clients is literally at the core of our ethos, it is the reason this group exists. All the money we charge is invested back into delivering the best possible service and support.

Working fairly. Working sustainably. Working for you. We are Coded.

It is as simple as that.

Benefits

Ours is a unique approach: to do the best we can for your students, your staff and our employees.

Support

First and foremost we provide excellent and attentive IT support.

We don’t ration support and we don’t believe that ‘scheduled visits’ are the best approach when issues and queries can occur in real-time, at any time. We provide online support to all our clients (via Slack, instant messaging, screen-sharing) that works around them. Having worked in a wide range of educational settings, we understand the time pressures of the classroom and how best to work around the needs of educators and staff.

Onsite visits are based on need and can be flexibly scheduled to suit working patterns and staff availability.

Continuity

We know that continuity of service is vitally important. We don’t lock our clients into long-term contracts. We believe that our work speaks for itself and you’ll want to stay with us on that basis alone. If you would prefer to look elsewhere, that is fine - we’ll support you for as long as you need and make the transition as smooth as possible. Remember that our aim is to help improve IT in education - not simply to try and gather the most customers!

We operate a secure shared approach to managing your system information and credentials. Each of our clients retains full ownership over this data and we make sure that key individuals within your organisation are always able to access this information.

Sustainability

Technology can have a hugely negative impact on our environment. We are fighting back against the vast power usage and endless upgrading cycles by helping you choose the most sustainable approaches to your computing and data storage needs. We try to re-use and re-provision wherever possible, to help keep waste to an absolute minimum.

We believe in actions, so we keep our own travel footprint down too, using sustainable and shared transport, and making the best use of remote access and support technologies.

We believe that technology can be a lot more friendly to our planet, and we will show you how.

Systems

We are experts in modern cloud-based platforms, and can help transform your approach to technology.

We have deep experience in tranisitioning from legacy on-site infrastructure into responsive online systems. Having worked with a large range of systems and approaches over the years, we can offer balanced and insightful advice to help deploy simple and flexible solutions.

Not only are these systems be more reliable, but they are often much more cost-efficient too. We believe that using modern tools helps our clients provide the most relevant education possible!

Services

We don’t sell extra products. We don’t take commissions to recommend particular solutions. We don’t take a share of management or service license fees.

We are fiercely independent and we are in your corner. We look for most efficient and effective services that deliver for you. We share our approaches and knowledge between all our clients as much as possible, helping us all learn from each others experiences.

We are all part of a educational community with shared goals.

Training

Knowledge is as important as any technology. We wouldn’t be in education if we didn’t passionately believe that.

We all know that little and often is usually the key to improvement, so we don’t overwhelm. Instead we will always be at your side (virtually or physically), answering questions, suggesting alternative approaches and demonstrating the best ways to achieve.

We seek to develop skills through our support. Confident and accomplished users are as much in our interests as yours! We can only improve organisational ability if we are are partners, invested in your success. We don’t want you to be dependent on us, but to thrive with our help!

Packages

We believe in full transparency in everything we do, including the costs we charge for our services.

For most of our clients, a fixed-cost support package is the most efficient way to partner with us. Although the needs of each client can be different, this normally means provided a full support service for smaller schools and working in conjunction with a small onsite team for larger organisations.

Our support is priced on a simple per-user basis, with a user being anyone who interacts with technology in your organisation. Typically, this is all your staff plus all your students/pupils. Our charges are normally £2 per-user, per-month (net). If you have complex or specific requirements we probably need to have a discussion about those first, to ensure we can deliver at an agreed cost.

For a regular/small-sized primary, with about 240 pupils (2 form entry for 3 year groups, or single form entry for years 1-6) and 20 memebers of staff, our charges are about £520 per calendar month (240 + 20 * 2). Secondary schools and colleges will typically have a higher user count, so charges tend to be around £1-2k per month - but please get in touch if you want a more accurate estimate or to discuss further!

If you only need ad-hoc help, we can do that too. We charge £64 / per-hour for support, with a normal minimum of 3hrs for onsite work and 15mins for remote work.

There are some further conditions and restrictions related to working with us, such as geographical location, and a committment to diversity of views and access to education. We don’t work with anyone who doesn’t respect the rights of all. We will not tolerate racism, sexism, prejudice, or discriminatory behaviour in any form.

If you want more information, drop us an email to start a conversation!
